Twin Lakes Recreation Trail Nears Completion

by KAP Linder

Attention walkers, bikers and outdoor enthusiasts: The Twin Lakes Trail is near the finish line!

On the south end of North Twin, paving was completed this summer and fall, including a branch that takes travelers to the Twin Lakes Grocery and Grill. This portion has been seeded with grass for spring growth.

Now continuous on three sides of the lake (north, west and south), the trail will be complete when about 1/2 mile of paving is laid on the east side of the lake in spring 2007. This loop around North Twin, when all paved, will be 6.4 miles.

Upon the completion of the trail on North Twin, South Twin will be signed and added to the maps as a shared roadway extension of the trail. South Twin is predominantly a wildlife refuge with migrating waterfowl during much of the year. The entire trail will then consist of two continuous loops totaling more than 13 miles. A thing of beauty for all to enjoy.

Trail users will enjoy many beautiful spots alongside the trail, including 10 benches with peaceful views of the lake, the round barn and the Iowa landscape. Solar light/planters help to light the trail and add a splash of summer beauty.

The Anderson Memorial includes a beautiful gazebo/picnic spot with a lakeside view and the Linder Memorial overlooks the lake and West Twin Lakes State Park.
